Bakugan Wins 'Toy of the Year' Award... Again!

Spin Master's Bakugan Battle Brawlers has been awarded the Toy Industry Association's 'Toy of the Year' award for the second year in a row! It has truly been an honor to walk away with such outstanding recognition!

Not only has Bakugan been crowned the King of Toys, but we've also received a couple more accolades.

Here's a rundown of the wins:

Congratulations to everyone who has helped make Bakugan Battle Brawlers the successful phenomenon that it has become! Most importantly, thank you to all of the brawlers who have supported Bakugan!

The 2009 Toy of the Year (TOTY) Awards program is hosted by The Toy Industry Association (TIA) and pays tribute to the best in toys and children's entertainment; outstanding achievements by individuals, teams, and companies; and the creativity and playful spirit upon which the toy industry is based. The event was held in New York City at Pier 60/Chelsea Piers and was attended by more than 450 guests representing a diverse cross-section of the toy industry.

ACTIVISION PUBLISHING AND NELVANA ENTERPRISES ANNOUNCE UPCOMING VIDEO GAMES BASED ON "TOY OF THE YEAR" WINNER BAKUGAN

SANTA MONICA, CA –February 24, 2009 – Activision Publishing, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) announced today an agreement with Corus Entertainment Inc.’s Nelvana Enterprises to develop and distribute video games based on the breakout hit toy and wildly popular action animated television series Bakugan. The first Bakugan game will be released for Wii™, Nintendo DS™, Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and PLAYSTATION®3 and PlayStation®2 computer entertainment systems in the fall of 2009.

“Bakugan’s success in 2008 speaks for itself and we’re confident it will be even bigger in 2009,” said David Oxford, Activision Publishing. “It is our goal to expand this proven property in a way that both fans and gamers will love.”

“Ever since Bakugan exploded in popularity, players have been clamoring for a video game version,” said Doug Murphy, President, Nelvana and GM, Corus Kids. “We share our fans’ excitement in doing battle in an interactive Bakugan world!”

Bakugan tells the story of Dan and his friends as they battle their Bakugan Brawlers to save the planet of Vestroia and, ultimately, Earth from destruction. The series airs on Cartoon Network in the United States and internationally, and on TELETOON in Canada. The toy line, developed by Spin Master Ltd., brings action to the popular genre of collectible trading card games with marble-like Bakugan spheres that transform into “battle brawling” action figures when rolled onto special game cards. A genuine toy craze in the 2008 holiday season, Bakugan recently won three “Toy of the Year” awards from The Toy Industry Association: overall Toy of the Year, Boy Toy of the Year, and Property of the Year.

The video games, under development by veteran Japanese studio NOW Production, will render the elements that made Bakugan a worldwide phenomenon into mind-blowing digital experiences. Everything a Bakugan enthusiast and gamer would love is here - intense battles, the ability to create your own Brawler, cartoon quality graphics and multiplayer combat.

UNIVERSAL CITY, CA - December 11, 2008 - Spin Master Ltd. and Universal Pictures have entered into a development deal in which Universal and Stuber Productions will produce a film based on the popular strategic game and anime series Bakugan Battle Brawlers. One of the most sought after toy lines of this holiday season, Bakugan Battle Brawlers is a collectible strategy game featuring marble-like balls that transform into powerful Bakugan monsters when rolled on game cards. With its unique combination of great characters and all the play patterns that boys love, Bakugan has rapidly gained recognition around the world as the next big thing in boys' action entertainment. The anime series Bakugan Battle Brawlers airs six days a week on the Cartoon Network and is continually a Top 10 show for the network.

"Bakugan brings something original and exciting to the boys' action genre and we're looking forward to working with Stuber Productions and Universal to unleash that power on the big screen," says Ronnen Harary of Spin Master.

Ronnen Harary from Spin Master Ltd. is producing the film along with Scott Stuber from Stuber Productions. Donna Langley and Jeff Kirschenbaum from Universal are overseeing. Jon Mone of Stuber Productions brought the property to the company through Mike Drake, whom they just worked with on the upcoming Universal release Repossession Mambo. Jon will executive produce.

"I am very excited to collaborate with Spin Master to bring its unique property to the screen. Bakugan has all the elements of a great movie and is already adored by fans across the globe," said producer Scott Stuber.

"Bakugan provides an excellent concept and storyline for an action packed motion picture thriller," said Donna Langley. "We are pleased to be joining forces with Spin Masters and Stuber to bring this popular game to the big screen."

Universal recently released the Stuber Productions' David Wain comedy Role Models starring Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott. The company is currently in production on the Peter Billingsley-directed comedy Couples Retreat starring Vince Vaughn, Jason Bateman and Jon Favreau, who also wrote the script. Upcoming films to be released by Universal in 2009 are The Wolfman, directed by Joe Johnston and starring Benicio Del Toro, Emily Blunt and Anthony Hopkins; Traveling, directed by Brandon Camp and starring Jennifer Aniston, Aaron Eckhart and Martin Sheen; and the sci-fi thriller Repossession Mambo starring Jude Law and Forest Whitaker and directed by Miguel Sapochnik.

Official Bakugan Rules Update: Resolving a Tied Match

Attention Bakugan Brawlers! There has been an official update to the gameplay rules of Bakugan.

Amended Rule: Resolving a Tied Match

In the event of a tie: The battle is won by the first Bakugan that stood on the Gate card.

Please disregard any rules that may say otherwise, including the official rulebook that is provided in Bakugan products. This amended rule clears up confusion that might have occurred and caused undue battles.
